The US Treasury Department has imposed new sanctions on companies and individuals in India and Turkey for allegedly supporting Iran's oil shipping and aviation sectors.
The measures target an India-based network led by Suniel Kumar Sharma, his wife Jaspreet Preeti Shahid and two other Indian nationals, along with nine associated entities. Washington accused the network of providing fraudulent vessel flags and maritime certifications to ships transporting Iranian petroleum, including vessels linked to Iran's military and its regional proxies.
The Treasury also sanctioned Turkey-based Fugo Ground Services Inc. for providing ground handling and other services to US-sanctioned Iranian airlines, including Iran Air Tour, Saha Airlines, Taban Airlines and Ata Airlines.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington would continue targeting individuals and companies supporting Tehran through land, sea or air operations.
The sanctions freeze US-linked assets of designated individuals and entities, prohibit most transactions with them and may expose foreign companies and financial institutions facilitating sanctions evasion to penalties.
The Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) also issued an industry alert warning about the risks associated with vessels operating under fraudulent flags and maritime certifications.
The latest measures are part of the Trump administration's Operation Economic Outcast, aimed at restricting Iran's oil revenues and its ability to finance the conflict with the US and Israel.
