Iran’s Nouri Petrochemical Company has produced Iran’s first Euro 6 diesel, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to improve fuel quality and expand the production of cleaner fuels amid war and international sanctions.
The project has reduced the sulfur content of heavy distillate from approximately 2,500 parts per million (ppm) to less than 10 ppm, bringing the product in line with international quality standards.
According to the project’s reported specifications, the investment totaled €67 million plus 2.5 trillion tomans, with an annual production capacity of 2 million tons and an estimated return on investment of 29%.
The project, launched in 2020, has reached 100% completion as part of Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries (PGPIC) Group’s efforts to complete its value chain and increase value added.
The production of Euro 6 diesel is expected to support Iran’s efforts to develop export markets, enter the marine fuel bunkering market, and increase value added across the fuel supply chain.
Despite the challenges posed by war and sanctions, the project was completed and brought into operation without interruption, demonstrating the capabilities of domestic industry in developing advanced fuel-processing technologies.
