Tajikistan has received its first shipments of oil and petroleum products from Iran, the Asia-Plus online publication reported on September 24, citing the country’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources.
The ministry has not yet disclosed the volume of the shipments or their commercial terms.
In August, Tajikistan sought to import up to 2.55 million tons annually from Iran, including 2 million tons of crude oil, 300,000 tons of diesel, 150,000 tons of gasoline, and 100,000 tons of jet fuel. Transporting this volume would require about 51,000 railway tank cars, with Dushanbe proposing dedicated trains and a “green corridor” through Iran.
Iranian crude could be processed at Tajikistan’s 1.2-million-ton-per-year TK-Oil refinery in the Danghara Free Economic Zone, which has faced difficulties operating at full capacity because of limited feedstock.
Despite the new Iranian supply, Russia remains Tajikistan’s dominant petroleum-product supplier, accounting for more than 90% of the country’s 599,500 tons of imports in the first half of 2026.
