Mohsen Paknejad, Iran’s Oil Minister announced that Tehran and Baku are reviewing existing capacities to expand energy cooperation and will follow up on agreed areas through joint working groups.
He spoke Tuesday, September 29 after his third meeting with Shahin Mustafayev, Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan. He said that, given the long-standing ties between Iran and Azerbaijan and the constructive cooperation of recent years, a favorable ground has been laid for expanding collaboration, particularly in economic fields.
Noting that the talks focused mainly on energy cooperation, he added that, given Azerbaijan's considerable capacities, the two sides held detailed discussions and exchanges on energy trade and other areas of cooperation.
The oil minister stated that it was agreed these issues would be pursued through the working groups introduced by both sides in order to reach concrete results.
The latest talks followed previous meetings in Tehran in 2024 and 2025 that focused on strengthening bilateral energy cooperation.
Iran and Azerbaijan have a multi-year record of energy relations. The two countries' shared position on the Caspian Sea, their proximity to regional energy markets, and Iran's access to an extensive transmission network provide grounds for expanding bilateral and multilateral energy cooperation.
