Afghanistan has signed a contract with Saudi Arabia's Delta Energy International for the exploration and extraction of the Kushk-Tirpul oil block, the office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs announced on Monday.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Saudi company will commit an initial investment of 200 million U.S. dollars toward the exploration and development of seven gas blocks in the Kushk area of the strategically important Kushk-Tirpul oil basin, the office said in a statement.
Spanning around 22,000 square kilometers, the Kushk-Tirpul oil basin is located in western Herat and Badghis provinces.
In a related development on the same day, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum also signed agreements valued at 13.8 million dollars with Russia's TNG company. The deals cover supervision and consultancy services for the Amu Darya oil basin as well as the construction of a flexible production facility at the Zamrad Sai block
