Iran and Oman have resumed talks on restoring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, discussing a joint temporary shipping corridor and a project to clear mines from the strategic waterway.
The proposed framework includes the establishment of a joint temporary navigational corridor through the Strait of Hormuz and an agreement to implement a joint project to clear mines from the strait. Technical negotiations between the two sides will continue with the aim of reaching agreement on a permanent navigational corridor and the future administration of the strait, as well as a mechanism for information exchange, traffic management, and the provision of relevant navigational and security services.
In this regard, both sides stressed the importance of holding joint talks with regional countries bordering the waters of the Persian Gulf. They also emphasized the need to comply with applicable international law and respect the sovereign rights of coastal states.
