A US official said on Friday that Iran and Oman are making progress toward an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, potentially restoring normal commercial and oil tanker traffic disrupted by the five-month US-Iran war, as reported by Reuters.
The US said it would lift its blockade of Iranian ports once commercial shipping through Hormuz resumes without restrictions.
Previous US signals of an imminent agreement were repeatedly followed by Iranian denials, leaving uncertainty over whether a lasting arrangement can be reached.
Regional tensions have also prompted Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey to sign a mutual defense pact, while efforts continue to address the Israel-Hezbollah conflict in Lebanon.
