Iran’s Kaveh Petrochemical Company (Kaveh Methanol) successfully restarted its methanol plant in early June 2026 using a fully domestically produced methanol synthesis catalyst.
According to Petrochemiha News Website, the complex, which has a production capacity of 7,000 tons per day of AA-grade methanol, is considered the world's largest methanol producer and has now chosen the Iranian-made catalyst for the second consecutive catalyst loading.
The catalyst, developed under the license of Iranian Petrochemical Research and Technology Company and manufactured by Pouya Pazhouhesh Bakhtar, a subsidiary of Bakhtar Petrochemical Group, was loaded at a volume of 560 tons. Following startup, plant performance reportedly exceeded that achieved with catalysts supplied by Johnson Matthey of the UK and China's Sinopec.
Company officials described the achievement as a major milestone demonstrating Iran's capability to develop and manufacture advanced industrial catalysts and strengthening the petrochemical sector's technological self-sufficiency.
