According to Iran’s Oil Ministry, part of the facilities of Karoon Petrochemical Company was struck during an attack on the Mahshahr Special Economic Zone.
The ministry reported that, during attacks carried out on Monday, June 8, projectiles hit sections of the company's facilities, causing damage to part of the petrochemical complex. No further details regarding the extent of the damage, operational impact, or potential casualties were immediately released.
Karoon Petrochemical is Iran’s sole major producer of isocyanates and one of the few manufacturers of these strategic chemicals in the Middle East. Its key products, TDI (Toluene Diisocyanate) and MDI (Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate), are essential feedstocks for the production of polyurethane, a material widely used in furniture, mattresses, automotive components, refrigerators, freezers, building insulation, sandwich panels, and footwear.
Any disruption or reduction in TDI production would first affect the mattress, furniture, and industrial foam industries. Likewise, interruptions in MDI output could significantly impact supply chains in the construction, household appliance, and automotive sectors.
