Local officials in western Herat say that practical work on the TAPI (Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India) gas pipeline project is continuing in an orderly and rapid manner in Afghanistan, with significant progress achieved in various sections of the project.
The TAPI project is one of the largest public-benefit projects in the country and is expected to play an important role in regional economic development and job creation in Afghanistan.
Mohammad Yousuf Saeedi, spokesman for the Herat governor, said that 64 kilometres of pipeline have so far been laid, while another 125-kilometre stretch has been prepared for further installation work.
He added that around 51 kilometres of pipeline have also been transported from outside the country to the project site.
Saeedi said the pace of work on the TAPI project has recently increased compared to previous periods, with around 500 metres of pipeline being installed daily.
It is worth noting that the TAPI project is one of the largest gas transmission projects in the region, designed to transport Turkmenistan’s gas through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India.
Two months ago, former Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow said that the first section of the TAPI gas pipeline to Herat city would be completed by the end of 2026
