Mehdi Hosseini, an Iranian senior energy expert, commented on statements about the possible shutdown of oil wells and halt of production due to export restrictions and full storage capacity. He said that when oil is being produced but there is no possibility for storage or export, it may seem logical to shut down wells, but he does not believe in this approach.

He emphasized that production can be reduced in line with storage capacity and export capability. According to this senior energy expert, shutting down wells is not the solution, and despite claims about limited storage and exports, production will not be stopped.

He explained that oil production will be adjusted according to storage and export levels, while keeping the wells active so that production can quickly increase once export issues are resolved. Hosseini described claims that Iran’s wells would be shut down and difficult to restart as American propaganda.

He noted that restarting a well after long inactivity can be challenging, but believes oil industry specialists will not allow wells to be shut down. Instead, production will be reduced to keep wells “alive,” and Iran will not surrender to a complete halt in production.

He insisted that Iranian oil wells will not be shut down simply due to current storage and export problems. While reducing production may bring challenges, oil exports will continue, and part of the oil will be refined domestically for internal consumption.

Hosseini added that even under maritime restrictions, Iran’s oil exports will not completely stop—if three tankers are planned, at least two may still pass. He described Iran’s oil strategy as a combination of exporting, refining domestically, and storing oil, with production adjusted accordingly.

He concluded that despite difficult conditions, Iran can manage the situation and continue producing and exporting oil, expressing hope that military forces will secure maritime routes to prevent disruptions.
