China Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC), a subsidiary of CNOOC, has secured an EPC contract worth up to $4 billion for QatarEnergy’s Bul Hanine offshore oil field, TradeArabia News Website reported.
The project, the largest Chinese offshore oil and gas engineering contract in the Middle East, involves designing, procuring, constructing, transporting, installing, and commissioning over 60 offshore facilities and 40 subsea pipelines and cables. It also includes retrofitting existing platforms and decommissioning abandoned ones.
Located about 100 km east of Qatar’s coast in water up to 40m deep, the project will process over 130,000 tons of steel and is scheduled for completion by mid-2031. Officials highlighted its significance for China-Qatar energy cooperation and Belt and Road Initiative collaboration.
