Iran, Turkey launch talks on gas cooperation

Iran welcomes Turkish companies’ participation in projects of its oil industry, said Oil Minister Javad Owji on Thursday.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a meeting with Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparsalan Bayraktar, Owji pointed to Turkish companies’ willingness to involve in Iran’s upstream projects, particularly development of oil fields, reported the News Agency of Iran Oil Ministry.

He stated: “The official negotiations between the National Iranian Gas Company and Turkey’s BOTAŞ started today on technical issues related to extension of gas exports to Turkey.”

Bayraktar on his visit to Tehran reveals Turkey’s firm determination to extend the contract on importing gas from Iran and stated: “Turkish companies’ investment in development projects of Iran’s gas fields and renovation of gas transmission infrastructure was one of the main topics he discussed with his Iranian counterpart.”

He added: “Turkey has imported a total of 156 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Iran over the past 28 years as part of the cooperation between the two countries.”
