A trilateral agreement on gas swaps from Turkmenistan to the Republic of Azerbaijan through Iran’s territory was signed yesterday, 28th November 2021, in Ashgabat.
According to the agreement, an annual volume 1.5 to 2 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas will be transported from Turkmenistan to the Republic of Azerbaijan through the Islamic Republic of Iran.
On the sidelines of the signing ceremony of the trilateral gas swap agreement, Javad Owji, Iran’s Oil Minister said: "According to this agreement, we will receive gas from Turkmenistan at Sarakhs border as of coming winter and deliver it to Azerbaijan at Astara border."
He added: “The gas flow from Turkmenistan to Iran had been suspended since December 2016. The first installment of Iran's debt to Turkmenistan regarding the previous gas contract will be paid to Turkmenistan soon."
