Yesterday, Iran’s oil minister Masoud MirKazemi started a fresh round of talks with his Omani counterpart, Mohammad Al-Ramhi, in Tehran to expand the two countries’ cooperation in oil and gas sectors.
 
According to the news agency of Iran’s oil ministry, topics of discussion between the oil ministers of the two countries include: development of Kish gas field, development of Hengam shared oil/gas field, gas swap and construction of a petrochemical plant in Iran.
 
The previous round of Iran-Oman discussions took place past midsummer, while Oman king Soltan Ghabus made a visit to Iran.
 
Oman needs Iran’s gas as the feed for its LNG plant and domestic industries, based on which an MoU was signed between the two countries for a joint development of Kish gas field in 2007.
 
Oman is supposed to secure the required capital, estimated to be about $ 12 Bln, for the development of Kish gas field. In return, Iran is obliged to supply 60% of Oman’s gas needs from the first phase of the field's development and the remaining 40% from its second phase.  
 
Oman has asked Iran to supply more than 2 bcf/d of gas.
