Consulting company ‘Control Risks’ said today it has identified five countries, normally deemed too risky, that may now offer safer opportunities to do business during the launch of it annual RiskMap 2010.
 
It highlighted Ukraine, Iran, Mozambique, Indonesia and Peru as having ‘impressive natural and/or social resource endowment’ which through improved governance could bring the countries out of the shadows.
 
In terms of oil and gas the company pointed out that if a deal between Iran and the international community over its nuclear program was reached, it would offer a significant opportunity for international oil companies.
 
“The odds are still stacked against Iran reaching an accommodation with the international community over its nuclear ambitions, but those odds shortened somewhat in 2009 as the US administration’s policy of blending pressure and incentives has become more refined,” said Control Risks.
