‘Iran LNG’ project to come online in 2011: Nozari

Date: Friday, March 20, 2009
Source: Platts

Iranian oil minister Gholamhossein Nozari said Wednesday the 10 million mt/yr ‘Iran LNG’ project would come online in 2011, the first of Iran's several planned LNG projects to become operational.

Nozari told Platts on the sidelines of an energy conference in Vienna that two other projects, involving French oil major Total and Shell, were still being negotiated and none of the foreign partners had pulled out despite conflicting reports as to the status of the two projects.

"Total has got barriers but they have not pulled out," Nozari said. The French oil major was negotiating ceding its operatorship of the Pars LNG project with other potential foreign partners, including China's CNPC, he added.

"They are negotiating with other companies to take over as operators and give some of their shares to them," Nozari said.

Asked whether Iran was willing to wait indefinitely for Total to make a final investment decision on the Pars LNG project and Shell for the Persian LNG project, Nozari said two LNG projects were proceeding, one to come online in 2011 and another deal just concluded with China's CNOOC.

"We have the ‘Iran LNG’ project coming online in 2011 and we have just signed the North Pars gas deal with CNOOC," he said.
