More talks are needed to make progress on a deal signed in 2013, after years of talks, for Oman to import gas from Iran via a planned subsea gas pipeline link, Omani Foreign Minister Yussef bin Alawi told Reuters on Thursday.
The deal is for an average 20 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d) of gas over 25 years, in a deal valued at around $60 billion.
"Of course, discussion is taking place in light of our need for more gas for our own industry and power generation. But also we are aware of the sanctions placed on the Iranians," bin Alawi said, referring to international curbs on trade with Iran over its disputed nuclear program.
"It will take time, but definitely if the whole thing is smooth we would require (investment) in that," he added.
